(빌립보서 2:1-11) 복음에 합당한 생활

하나님을 믿는다는 것은 그리스도와 같이 된다는 것을 말합니다. 믿는다는 것은 수동적이고 순종적인 것이기에 하나님을 믿는다는 것은 하나님의 의와 뜻이 자신의 본성이 된다는 것이기 때문입니다. 그리고 하나님의 의와 뜻이 한 사람의 본성이 되었다는 것은 그 사람의 삶이 하나님의 의와 뜻을 표현하는 삶과 행동을 한다는 것입니다. 그것이 바로 말씀이 육신이 되었다는 것입니다. 그리고 그런 사람의 정체성을 ‘그리스도’라고 하는 것입니다.

그리스도란 하나의 정체성입니다. 그 정체성의 대명사요 본질이 바로 예수 그리스도이신 것입니다. 그래서 영어로 예수 그리스도는 the라는 정관사를 붙입니다. 물론 대문자로 시작합니다. 그리고 예수님께서 보이신 그 정체성이 한 사람의 삶의 본질이 되었을 때 그 사람은 그리스도가 되는 것입니다. 이때는 관사 ‘a’를 붙입니다. 그렇다는 것은 그리스도는 아주 많다는 것입니다. 예수님께서 보이신 그리스도의 정체성이 다른 몸으로 표현된 많은 사람도 그리스도라는 것입니다.

따라서 예수님을 믿는다는 것은 그리스도가 되는 것입니다. 그럴 값이 아니라면 교회에 다니고 하나님을 믿을 이유가 없습니다. 하나님께서 예수님을 이 땅에 보내신 이유가 사람들이 예수님을 보고 예수님과 같이 육신으로 하나님의 의를 표현하는 그리스도가 되게 하심인데 그것을 금기시하고, ‘사람이 어떻게 그리스도가 될 수 있느냐?’고 한다면 그것은 진정한 바보이기 때문입니다.

그렇다고 또 교회에만 다니면 다 그리스도가 되느냐 그것은 아닙니다. 교회에 가서 육신의 어떤 것들을 하나님께 기도하고 예수님의 보증으로 풍족하고 안락하게 만들려고 하는 것은 제 아무리 큰 수고를 하고 있어도 다 진노를 사는 것입니다. 하나님께서 예수님을 통해서 보이신 그리스도의 정체성은 그것이 아니기 때문입니다. 가장 먼저 이 육신을 어떻게 보는지 부터가 다릅니다. 이 육신을 온전한 것으로 보는지, 아니면 부정하게 보는지 부터가 다릅니다.

‘기름 부음을 받은 자’라는 그리스도는 하나님의 기름을 부음 받았다는 것입니다. 그것은 하나님의 의와 뜻으로 자기 삶을 다스리는 왕이고, 또 하나님의 의와 뜻으로 자기 삶을 살아서 그 삶을 제사 드리는 제사장이라는 의미이지, 하나님을 믿어 육신의 문제를 해결하는 사람이라는 의미가 아니기 때문입니다. 또한 인생의 목적이 그것이라는 것을 알면 이 육신은 그리스도가 되기에 온전한 것임을 인정해야 하기 때문입니다.

그러므로 그리스도로사는 삶, 즉 복음에 합당한 삶이라는 것은 도덕적이거나 모범적인 삶을 한정하는 것이 아닙니다. 그런 것은 다 현상이고 표현입니다. 사람들이 추구하는 도덕적이고 모범적인 삶은 행동의 문제가 아니라는 것이 성경의 말씀입니다. 그런 현상과 행동과 표현은 본성에서 비롯된 것이므로 본성이 그리스도와 같아진다면 자연스럽게 되는 2차적인 것이지 그런 행동을 하려고 애쓰는 것이 복음적인 삶이나 그리스도인의 삶이 아니라는 것입니다.

빌립보서 2장에서 바울사도가 구체적으로 언급하고 있는 복음적인 삶의 실체(내용)를 보아도 그렇습니다. 예수님께서 이 땅에 오심을 하나님과 본체이신데 그 동등함을 버리고 종의 형체로 오셨다고 했습니다. 사실 이 한 마디만 해도 종이 아니라 세상에서 이긴 자가 되어 하나님께 영광을 돌리겠다는 신앙이 얼마나 거짓된 신앙인지 단번에 알아차려야 정상인데 이것이 참 어려운 것이 현실이긴 합니다.

예수님께서 이 땅에 오셔서 그리스도가 되시고, 또 보여주신 그리스도의 정체성은 이기는 것에서 시작하지 않고 낮아지고 종(죄인)이 되는 것에서 시작하시는데, 사람들은 예수님을 믿어서 높아지고, 세상 사람들과 세상적인 가치에 있어 우위에 서기 위해 하나님을 믿으며, 그것에 그치지 않고 믿는 세계라고 할 수 있는 교회에서 마저 더 높아지려 다투고 경쟁합니다. 

대표적으로 목사가 그렇습니다. 목사가 되려면 경쟁에서 더 이긴 자가 되어야 하는 것이 그것입니다. 자신이 그렇게 경쟁해서 오른(낮아진 것이 아니라) 자리기에 설교도 이긴 자가 되는 것을 복이라 은혜라 하고, 또한 스스로 이긴 것에 합당한 대우를 받으려 합니다. 그래서 스스로 하나님의 종(권세가 있는 종)이라며 자신의 잘못에 대한 사람들의 의견과 같은 것은 무시하면서 하나님의 종을 귀하게 대접해야 한다는 괴상한 논리로 대우 받고 있습니다. 세상에 귀한 종이 어디 있습니까? 종은 그냥 종이지. 하나님의 아들들이 있는 교회에 하나님의 종이 있다면 아들이 종을 부려야지 종이 아들을 부리면 되겠습니까?

바울사도는 복음적인 삶을 전하면서 이르기를 권면하고 사랑하는 모든 것을 종이 되어 섬기듯이 하라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 이것은 ‘그렇게 하라고 했으니 그래야지.’라는 마음가짐이나 다짐으로 되는 일이 아닙니다. 성경의 모든 말씀이 그렇습니다. 그리스도의 본성이 자기 안에서 생명이 되고 그 생명이 표현되고 보니 종과 같이 섬기게 되는 법이 아니라면 온전하게 그럴 수 있는 법이 없습니다. 사람의 마음이 다짐한다고 바뀌는 것은 아니기 때문입니다. 안에서 밖으로 바뀌기는 해도 밖에서 안을 바꿀 수 없는 것이 사람의 마음이고 본성이기 때문입니다.
