성경이 어려운 이유

옛 이스라엘 민족이나 지금이나 성경이 어려운 것은 성경이 말씀하시는 내용의 실존을 보지 못하기 때문입니다. 성경이 말하는 실존을 보지 못하는 것은 없기 때문이 아니라, 있어도 볼 안목이 없기 때문입니다. 이것이 아주 중요한 포인트입니다. 

성경 곧 하나님의 말씀이 육신이 되어 이 땅에 와 계실 때에도 사람들은 그 예수님을 보지 못하였습니다. 그리고 지금도 세상에는 많은 그리스도의 심령을 가진 이들이 있지만 역시 세상이 알지 못하고 있습니다.

빛이 어두움에 비취되 어둠이 알지 못하더라(요 1:5)

그렇다면 왜 예수님을 알지 못한 것일까요? 그것은 예수님이 투명인간이었거나, 사람들이 자신을 알아보는지 시험하시기 위하여 위장을 하고 다니셔서 그런 것이 아니라, 각 사람들이 ‘하나님의 아들은 이런 존재’라는 자신만의 <그리스도의 상(象)>을 가지고 있었는데 안타깝게도 그것이 하나님이 보내신 예수님과는 달랐던 것입니다.

예수님께서는 당시 가장 극형인 십자가에 못 박혀 죽는 형벌을 받았습니다. 말씀이 육신이 되어 오신 하나님의 아들이 세상 가치관에 의하여 흉악범이 되었다는 것입니다. 그 이유는 예수님께서 흉악한 범죄 행위를 저질러서가 아닙니다. 세상 사람들이 가진 하나님 아들의 상(象)이나 또 종교적 관점에서 볼 때도 도무지 어느 한 구석도 하나님 아들이라고 인정해 줄 만한 것이 없다는 이유 그 하나였습니다. 그런 주제에 자신이 하나님의 아들이라고 하니 그것이 바로 “죄목”이었다는 것입니다.

가난한 목수의 아들, 제사장이나 서기관이나 바리새인과 같이 율법에 대하여 알지도, 지키지도 못하며, 하나님의 아들이라면 절대로 어울릴 것이라 여겼던 죄인과 창녀와 세리(당시의 개념으로 매국노)와 하나님의 저주를 받았다고 여기는 각종 병자들과 어울리는 예수님은 더 많이 가지고 이루어야 선이 되는(세상적이든 종교적이든) 가치관으로는 도저히 하나님의 아들이라고 용납할 수 없었던 것입니다.

어쨌거나 사람들은 자기들의 안목으로 살다보니 예수님을 알지 못하는 것입니다. 더 많이 가지고 더 많이 이루는 것이 선한 것이기에 더 많이 가지고 더 많이 이룬 사람이 자기 위에 오르는 것을 인정하면서 자신도 그렇게 되기를 바라는 안목으로 낮아지고 섬기러 오신 예수님을 알아 볼 수는 없는 것이기 때문입니다.
