(빌립보서 2:12-18) 흠 없는 자녀

‘털어서 먼지 안 나는 사람 없다.’는 말이 있습니다. 누구라도 다 흠은 있다는 것입니다. 그런데 성경은 구원 받은 사람은 흠이 없고 온전하고 거룩하다고 말씀하십니다. 그러면 하나님을 믿는 사람들의 입장은 어떨까? 성경의 말씀과 같이 자신을 온전하게 여길까요? 아니면 자신도 먼지가 있는 흠 있는 사람으로 여길까요? 아쉽게도 대부분의 사람들은 자신들도 다 흠이 있다는 것을 인정합니다. 그리고 그것이 겸손이고 솔직한 것이라고 생각합니다. 그러나 그것은 자신이 구원을 받지 못했다고 인정하는 것입니다.

사람들은 하나님께서 하신 말씀을 믿노라 하면서 겸손인양 하나님의 말씀을 무시하고, 또 하나님께서 만드시고 보시기에 심히 좋았다고 한 사람의 정체성을 늘 부정하게 여깁니다. 그리고는 그 부족함과 부정함을 하나님께 가서 온전하게 해 달라고 기도하고 떼를 씁니다. 하나님의 입장에서 보면 기가 막힐 노릇인 것입니다. 그런데 스스로를 부정하게 여기고 부족하게 여기면서 그것을 하나님께 의지해서 해결하려는 것을 더 잘할수록 좋은 신앙이라고 여깁니다.

사람들이 그런 모습을 보이는 이유는 다름이 아니라 하나님과 의와 생각이 다르기 때문입니다. 하나님께서는 외모를 보시지 않고 중심을 보시는데 사람들은 눈에 보이는 것을 본질로 보기 때문이며, 하나님께서 말씀하시는 의와 온전함은 정체성에 관한 것인데 사람은 행위와 형식에 관한 것으로 보기 때문이라는 것입니다.

보이는 것은 나타난 것으로 말미암은 것이 아니라(히 11:3)는 말씀이 그것이고 하나님이 지으신 모든 것은 감사함으로 받으면 버릴 것이 없다(딤전 4:4)는 말씀이 우리 육신의 모든 것이 온전함을 말씀하심에도 불구하고 사람들은 하나님의 말씀은 귓등으로도 듣지 않고 자신들이 하나님을 섬긴다고 하니 하나님께서 사람들을 불순종의 자녀라고 말씀하시는 것입니다. 하나님을 믿는다면서 하나님께서 하시는 말씀을 듣지 않고 있다는 것입니다.

우리가 흠이 없다는 것은 하나님께서 그 뜻하신 대로 사람 안에 의와 생명으로 거하실 때 그 의와 생명이 삶으로 나타나므로 그 사람 안에 하나님의 의가 있다는 것을 알 수 있도록 표현하기에 너무 온전하고 적합하게 지으셨다는 것입니다. 사람에게서 하나님의 의가 나타나는 것은 그 속에 하나님의 의와 생명이 있다는 것이고, 그렇게 사람 안에 하나님의 의가 있다는 것은 그 사람이 그리스도의 본성을 가진 것이고 하나님의 아들이라는 증거인 것입니다.

그러므로 사람은 부정하지도 않고 흠 있는 존재도 아닙니다. 부정하고 흠이 되는 것은 하나님이 주신 본성을 자기 의를 위하여, 눈에 보이는 세상과 육신과 형식을 위하여 사용할 때 부정하고 악한 존재가 되는 것일 뿐입니다. 그것이 아니라 하나님이 주신 자신의 모든 것을 감사함으로 받고 또 선한 하나님의 의를 나타내는데 사용한다면 이는 흠 없는 것입니다. 그리고 그것이 바로 구원을 받고 그리스도의 마음을 품은 것입니다.
